Hello,

I am Abhinav kumar

I am engaged in learning, teaching, and research at the intersection of design anthropology and systems thinking, with a strong emphasis on systems-oriented design practices. My work examines how design engages with complexity by attending to cultural contexts, lived practices, and relational structures, rather than through isolated problem-solving or discrete interventions.

I view participatory and co-design methodologies as anthropological tools through which systems thinking can meaningfully address complex social problems.

Alongside this, I study the indigenous scripts and visual languages of Bihar, exploring their socio-cultural significance, resilience, and contemporary relevance. This inquiry informs my broader effort to foreground local epistemologies within design education and practice, and to develop culturally grounded approaches to systemic design.

The Kaithi Project explores the Kaithi script as an indigenous socio-cultural system rather than merely a writing form.

The project involved designing a distinctive brand identity and packaging system for multiple toothpaste variants, while ensuring strong shelf presence and market differentiation.

Making Ends Meet is an ethnographic photo project documenting the everyday life and livelihood of a roadside cobbler in Gandhinagar.
